ABOUT THIS EVENT
This exploration delved into the intricate dynamics between Cultural Appropriation and Cultural Appreciation, with a spotlight on honoring the cultures we find valuable and interesting, particularly within the Black community. Guided by experts, this experience facilitated interactive discussions aimed at distinguishing respectful cultural engagement from appropriation.
Our mission was to foster human-informed perspectives on these crucial subjects, creating a safe space for dialogue and understanding about racial advocacy. This experience served as a beacon for those looking to deepen their support for community inclusivity, offering insights on how to actively champion cultural respect and appreciation.
Participants emerged with a clearer understanding of how to navigate cultural interactions thoughtfully, making this exploration a step toward fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for all communities.

the action of taking something for one’s own use, typically without the owner’s permission.
APPRECIATION:
recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something.

The discussion was on Cultural Appropriation vs. Appreciation — How this topic relates to the fashion, film, and music industries. The conversation opened up to the speakers sharing their thoughts on BIPOC-led cultural events and how the importance of inclusivity in these spaces can help spread cause and awareness. The speakers also shared their backgrounds in the fields they represent, giving more insight into the lack of cultural understanding in fashion, film, and music.
